"Skeeter" Fusca
Age 85, New Castle, DE, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2007 surrounded by his family.
He served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a medic, attaining the rank of Sergeant, and was very proud to have participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. Joe worked for Standard Wine & Spirits for 36 years, retiring in 1984. He was nationally famous as a fast pitch softball pitcher, leading his teams to countless championships, and taught his skills through coaching Little League Baseball teams. In his later years, Joe enjoyed horse racing, golf, photography, and socializing with friends while walking at the mall. He especially loved his family and caring for his grandchildren. Joe was a lifetime member of the American Legion Joseph B. Stahl Post # 30 and volunteered his time to the Gen. Thomas Holcomb Detachment Marine Corps League at the VA Hospital. He was known to be a gifted singer and dancer and shared his talent at weddings and parties.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ann J. Marconi Fusca; a son, Anthony J. Fusca, and his wife, Sylvia; 2 daughters, Toni A. Howard, and her husband, Gary, and Joanne F. Gordon, and her husband, Robert; a brother, Albert Fusca; a sister, Teresa Sposato; 5 grandchildren, Susan, Kristin, Gary, Alexa, and Adam; 3 great-grandchildren, Ziggy, Madison, and Sydney. Joe is preceded in death by a brother, Frank Fusca; and a sister, Carmela Ferrari.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 17, from 6-9 pm, in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE. Relatives and friends are also invited to share in the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 18, at 10:30 am, in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 801 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Fusca can be sent to Our Lady of Fatima Church.
