I met Joe when I enrolled in a Graphic Design class he was teaching at the University of Delaware Wilmington Campus in the 1980's. That first evening it was so evident how much he truly loved graphic design. Up to that point I had never met anyone with such a passion for design. He inspired me to stay on the path I had chosen. Over the decades I counted him as a friend and mentor. His kindness and generosity was known to all who knew him. No matter what question you might ask he would always take time out of his day to discuss with you possible ideas or solutions. I considered him my creative bodhisattva. I will miss him dearly but I am also relieved he is free from suffering. Until we meet again my friend I will keep your spirit alive in my heart.

Joe or Joey as we in HS called him was a joyous and caring friend. His laughter was infectious and his spirit was so very positive. I can only say behold his memory and let's all try to be more like him to honor his well-lived and loved life!

Joe was a wonderful friend of mine at Forwood Junior High. Joe and I shared many good times there and at the University of Delaware. We re-connected on Facebook about 3 years ago. We discovered we shared the same values, and points of view. Joe will be missed ... too young, too talented ... Great Guy! A true friend to all. Bob Norris

I imagine you now painting all day and playing music all night with the great artists from history. Safe journeys my friend. May you find peace and happiness eternal.

Joe was a class act all the way. Though it was many years ago that miller mauro was my client at Modern Press, his and Ruthea's company was my absolute favorite studio to work with. Please know that I will always cherish the kindness, patience, and generosity Joe showed a young print rep so many years ago. Though slight of stature, Joe's shoes will never be filled.

Joe, I am so glad we had the time to paint and share stories of our childhood together these last few years. You taught me so much about art and art history. I will cherish those times forever. Love always cousin. Susan.

My wife Sandi and I send our prayers "for the Peace that Passeth Understanding" on the passing of Joe Mauro.
I'd known Joe in passing for many years, more than 25 years, in Delaware's communications and marketing community. He was a great designer, a creative thinker, and, more importantly, a fine man.
We send our condolences to his family, and we share in their grief at his early passing.
