Leon Huhn Obituary

Leon Stiber Huhn, age 13, died at home in Wilmington, Delaware on March 6, 2016, three and one-half years after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer.

Leon lived well. He started studying violin at 6 years old, and enjoyed playing orchestral music with his friends at the Cab Calloway School of the Arts, where he was an eighth-grade strings major. He also played Bluegrass mandolin and composed his own music. Most of all, he loved playing outdoors with neighborhood friends, video and board games, and sharing a good joke.

As a natural athlete, he played on a Namaan's Little League championship team and was a member of the Delaware Sled Snipers Hockey Team.

After his diagnosis, Leon developed many cherished friendships within the local childhood cancer community. Kay's Kamp for Oncology Kids was his favorite week of the year. He was very proud that ""Leon's Team"" raised over $10,000 for the B+ Foundation to help children with cancer and their families and support pediatric oncology research. With the help of the compassionate doctors, nurses and staff at the Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital, Leon faced his own cancer treatments with courage, dignity, and hope.

He was also a beloved member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Wilmington.

Leon is survived by his parents George Huhn and Julie Brewer, brother Max, grandfather Leon Brewer, grandmother Mary Seiberling Huhn, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to continue sharing Leon's journey at www.caringbridge.org/visit/lhuhn

A service celebrating Leon's life will be held at 7pm on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Cab Calloway School of Arts in Wilmington, Delaware.

Leon will always be remembered and loved. The time I got to spend with him at Kay's Kamp as his Counselor is something I truly value. Quiet at first, but once he opened up he had such a great sense of humor and so many talents. Rest well buddy. We miss you!!

Leon was an inspiring young man. I knew Leon from Sled Sniper's sled hockey team. No matter what kind of day you were having, Leon would inspire people to get back up and keep on going. Despite his illness there was always a smile on his face and he had tons of energy that was left on the rink that seem to make the team that more determined for having a victory. It's a good feeling to know that he has moved on to a better place where he will no longer have pain and suffering of a terrible sickness, but for all who knew and loved Leon, he will never be forgotten, he will continue to live on in our hearts and in our minds.

Leon was (will always be) a member of Cabin 6 at Kay's Kamp. In his 1st year, walking around was a bit tough. One night after an all Kamp function we decided to play Ultimate Frisbee. Even though Leon couldn't run with everyone he ended up being voted MVP with his spectacular TD catches including an impressive one-handed grab for a score. His smile and awesome sense of humor always lit up Kamp and he will always be apart of C6.

Leon went to my school, and we were in a string quartet together. He was always so kind and positive. I'm so glad I got to know him, although I did not know him very well. He was an amazing violinist. He will be missed tons, and was loved by many. He will continue to live in our hearts. I'm sorry for your loss.

I didn't know Leon but I was dropping my daughter off at Charter/Cab earlier this week and there were a group of kids putting his name up on the fence. I asked her what was going on. She told me that he passed away and the kids were putting up memorials. I was very touched to see that. He must have been very loved by all. God bless
