Retired Newark Educator and Principal
Mr. Michael Francis Epler, age 59, of Newark, DE, died suddenly on Thursday, April 24, 2008.
Born in Alameda, CA on September 12, 1948, Mr. Epler was a son of the late Clarence Epler and Marian Maglio Epler. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Penn State University and began his career teaching social studies at Newark High School. He went on to teach social studies at Christiana High School, where he was later promoted to school principal. Mr. Epler retired as the assistant principal of Newark High School in 2007 after 33 years as a dedicated educator and administrator. Among his professional affiliations, he was an active member of the Delaware State Education Association (DSEA). An avid Penn State football fan throughout his life, Mr. Epler was also an expert model railroader.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathleen P. Kelly Epler; their 3 children, David Christopher Epler of Frederick, MD; Robert Michael Epler of Brooklyn, NY; and Jennifer Elyse Epler of Newark, DE; and his 3 siblings, John Epler, Patricia Epler and Diane Epler, all of Reading, PA.
Friends may call 6-8 pm, on Monday, April 28, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. The funeral service and interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Fire Company, P.O. Box 148, Newark, DE 19715.
