Paul Boardman Obituary

Mr. Paul R. Boardman, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Carneys Point, NJ, on October 8, 1922, Paul was the son of the late Raymond L. Boardman Sr. and Clara A. Hensz. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during World War II.

In civilian life, Paul made his career with the DuPont Company where he worked for 37 years until his retirement as a plant manager. Among his community affiliations, he was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Paul was interested in all types of sports throughout his life. For many years, he greatly enjoyed accompanying his daughter, Kim, to her equestrian competitions where the proud father would videotape each of her events. He truly loved children and was pleased to see them excel in athletics. As a popular fan at William Penn, Wilmington College, and, more recently, Caravel sporting events, he cheered for the success of all the student athletes. Known affectionately by family and friends as a "modern nomad," Paul delighted in traveling and particularly enjoyed cross country trips with the George Alderman Racing Team.

He is survived by his daughters, Judith Ann Veit and husband, Henry, of Pinellas Park, FL, and Kim Memmolo of Newark, DE; sisters, Virginia Boardman and Betty B. Waddington, both of Woodstown, NJ; grandchildren, Jennifer Brown and Henry "Hank" Veit; and two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond L. Boardman, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, July 11, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 12 noon. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Paul may be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801; or to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

Paul would probably be surprised that I returned to coach the girls' basketball team at WP five years ago. ON many occasions during that time I wished that Paul was in the stands taping my game. Additionally, I knew that this tape would be in my hands early the next morning. Paul was a special man and his support for William Penn athletics cannot be measured but I can guarantee that it meant the world to me! RIP Paul!

Paul was one of those faces you would always look for in the stands. He was always there to cheer us on and no matter the outcome he would smile so you knew that everything was ok. Thanks for always being William Penn Volleyball's #1 fan!

Paul was a welcomed face in the front row for any sports event. Most recently behind Home Plate during Caravel softball games. His broad smile and kind greetings will be sorely missed by many sports officials.

Paul was a great man.. He always had a warm smile and words of encouragement to give the girl's basketball team. He was a quiet, but integral figure in the life of many William Penn athletes. He will be missed..... (Jina Lewis (William Penn Class of 1997))

Paul was such a great friend to me when I was a coach and teacher at William Penn and Friends. He was always willing to tape a game and of course would give me coaching advice from time to time. I miss those big suspenders and great smile.

My sincerest condolences to Mr. Boardman's family and friends. He helped out with William Penn Marching Band when I was in school (1988 - 1992) and was a wonderful person. He would have given the shirt off his back for any of us kids, and he will be greatly missed.
