PHILLIP TOWNSEND Obituary

Major Phillip J.

Townsend, Jr.

Of Clarksville, DE died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, of severe trauma resulting from a motorcycle accident. He was 56.

He was born in Clarksville. Phillip was employed for 29 years with the Delaware Department of Corrections and was the security superintendent at the Sussex Correctional Institute in Georgetown and was a member of the Department of Corrections Pistol Team. Phillip was a member of the Delaware National Guard, was a 32nd degree Mason with the Delaware Masonic Lodge in Dagsboro, a member of the Delaware Consistory of Wilmington and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon #201. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip J. Townsend, Sr.; and 2 sisters, Phyllis M. and Joyce Ann Townsend. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah (Nichols) Townsend; 3 daughters, Pamela, Lori and Nadine; 3 sons, Matthew, Stuart and Phillip; 3 grandchildren, Alleigh, Gunar and Kiley; mother and step-father, Mabel and George Bender; sister, Patricia Via; and brother, Perry Townsend.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 31st, at 2 pm at the Bethany chapel of MELSON FUNERAL SERVICES on West Avenue in Ocean View, where friends may call after 12 noon. Interment will be in St. George's Cemetery in Clarksville.
