Mrs. Phyllis Hyatt Dunham, age 82, of Odessa, DE, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Christiana Hospital, with her family present.
Mrs. Dunham was born in Ossining, NY on March 25, 1924, daughter of the late Elwood L. Hyatt and Helen Smith Hyatt. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Mrs. Dunham had a lifelong interest in flowers and horticulture and was the proprietor of the former Everlasting Bouquets and Herbs in Odessa for many years. Her work as a floral designer was well-known, especially her dried arrangements and wedding pieces. She was a past president of Delaware Herbalists, an honorary life member and past president of the Middletown-Odessa Garden Club, a life member of the State Federation of Garden Clubs, and an active member of the Odessa Women's Club and Christmas in Odessa. She currently served on the advisory board of the Historic Houses of Odessa. A member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church for many years, Mrs. Dunham served on the altar guild, the Women of St. Anne's, and the Old St. Anne's Committee, for which she served as secretary. She was a longtime Girl Scout leader and a member of the Girl Scout Council.
Mrs. Dunham is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles W. Dunham; their 3 daughters, Susan Dunham and husband, David Van Voorhees, of Rockville, MD, Leslie D. Byron and husband, Peter, of Washington, NJ and Carol D. Glismann and husband, Rich, of Sterling, VA; sister-in-law, Harriet Dunham of Hyannis, MA; and 4 grandsons, Peter and Kevin Byron, and Warren and Andrew Glismann.
Friends may call from 6-8 pm on Friday, April 28, 2006, at the Bank at the Historic Houses of Odessa, Second and Main Streets, Odessa. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Old St. Anne's Episcopal Church, South Broad Street and St. Anne's Church Road, Middletown.
