"The King"
Mark, age 50, on October 7, 2006, passed away peacefully at the Christiana Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a short, courageous valiant battle with cancer, on Saturday, October 21, 2006.
Mark was born in West Chester, PA, the son of Betty F. Edwards and the late Richard J. Edwards, but had spent the last 42 years in Wilmington, DE. He was a 1974 graduate of John Dickinson High School, where he excelled in baseball, soccer and basketball. He also attended Cecil Community College, Towson State College and Delaware Technical & Community College. Mark will be remembered for the many years he spent as shortstop for the Parkway team in the Delaware Semi-Pro League. He was an avid fan of the Phillies, Flyers and Eagles. He enjoyed horse racing at Delaware Park and looked forward to his annual vacation to the Saratoga Race Course. Mark also derived pleasure from watching Tiger Woods. He was a member of the Polish Library Association.
Mark is survived by his mother, Betty F. Edwards; his loving and devoted companion, Robin Mandell; his son, Ryan; and 4 sisters, their spouses and children, Barbara and Hershal Deputy, John, Kate and Grace, Nancy and Jeff Johnson, Lauren and Palmer, Beth and Lloyd Powell, Andrew and Jason, and Donna and Paul Guglielmo; as well as many friends and teammates.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Andrew Himelstein and to the nurses at Christiana Hospital, 6B.
A Celebration of Mark's Life will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, at 1 pm. Burial will be held privately with his family. Visitation for Mark will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, October 24, 2006, from 6-9 pm.
