Raymond BECKER Obituary

Raymond Layton Becker Raymond Layton Becker, age 80, of Wilmington, DE passed away on December 30, 2003, after a short illness. Ray was born and raised in Wilmington, and graduated from P.S. duPont High school in 1942. He served his country as a navigator in the Italian campaign in World War II. After graduating from Penn State University in 1947, he attended Law school at Georgetown and Temple, receiving his law degree in 1950. Along the way, he married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Huber, in 1947. He practiced law in DE for 52 years. He is a past president of the Delaware Junior Chamber of Commerce and a former Judgment Commissioner. He served for many years on the Vestry at the Cathedral Church of St. John, where he also was an Usher. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Chandler Funeral Homes. His passions included his grandchildren, the Phillies, Eagles, Blue Hens and anything Penn State. He enjoyed his annual visits to Beaver Stadium and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity for Homecoming. He will be remembered by his colleagues for his kindness and willingness to share his knowledge. He will be remembered by all who met him by his distinctive laugh. He was the son of the late Wallie H. & Catherine Layton Becker. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte Huber Becker of Wilmington; his sons, James M. Becker, of Lewes and Richard D. Becker and his wife, Gina M. Mancini-Becker, of Newark; and 4 grandchildren, Rachael Roxanne, Angela Catherine, Stephanie Marlena and Alan Layton Becker. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 3, 2004, at the Cathedral Church of St. John, 10 Concord Avenue, Wilmington. Interment will be in the Garden of Praise at the Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the memorial fund of the Cathedral Church of St. John, or to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th Street, Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
