Raymond "Fuzzy" E. Mitchell, age 89 of Dagsboro, DE passed away on January 24, 2017 at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Millsboro, DE.

He was born in Millville, DE on September 20, 1927 son of the late John and Della Mitchell. His mother died at the age of 21 and he was placed in an orphanage known as the Murphy School in Dover from 2nd grad until 11th grade, where he excelled in all sports specifically football. With his athletic ability he was offered to tryout with the Phillies but instead volunteered with the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. He stayed in the Marines until the war was over and then he received his diploma from Dover High School.

Fuzzy owned service stations in Millville, Bethany Beach and Clarksville, DE. He was known as the "tire man". He sold his business in 1986 due to his declining health. He and his wife, Hilda spent 22 winters in Florida and traveled across country from Delaware to California three times.

Fuzzy was predeceased by his parents; his youngest brother, Reginal and a stepdaughter, Retha Kauffman Cleveland. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Hilda M. Mitchell and one brother, Chester (Margarete) Mitchell; two sisters, Della (Bob) Jones, and Louise (John) Merritt; one daughter, Margaret "Peggy" (David) Bailey; stepson, Robert Kauffman, four grandchildren, Crystal Snouffer, John Bailey, R.J. Kauffman, Matthew Kauffman and fiancé Cindy Dunston; seven great grandchildren, Ahwen and Mordekai Snouffer, McKenzie, Macy, Michael and Trey Kauffman and Jon Howard; a special cousin, Harvey Melson and his friend, Francis and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, DE where services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be in St. George's Cemetery in Clarksville, DE.
