Robert Joseph Reichert Oct 2, 1926-Nov. 2, 2000 Age 76 of Carrillon Crossing in Wilmington died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday, November 2, 2000 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Joseph S. and Irene F. Reichert of NY. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth W. Reichert; his children, R. Joseph Reichert, Jr. of CO, Michael C. Reichert of Wilmington, James S. Reichert and Nancy J. Burd, both of Ocean View, Edward W. Reichert of Boothwyn, PA; 11 grandchildren; 4 daughters-in-law; 1 son-in-law; and a sister, Margaret Gubranson of Chicago, IL. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas W. Reichert; and a sister, Elizabeth R. Smith. Mr. Reichert graduated from the University of Michigan, receiving a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering and a LL.B in law in 1951. He became employed with the Carborundum Company of New York upon his graduation and remained part of their patent department until he joined E.I. duPont Nemours & Company in 1955 when he moved to DE. He represented DuPont in its Patents and Licenses Division for a number of years prior to establishing the company's Environmental Affairs Division. He retired in 1985. During this time, he had significant involvement in 2 key pieces of environmental legislation; the Delaware Coastal Zoning Act and the Federal Superfund Act. He also was the president of Chemical Manufacturers Association, an industry public affairs group based in Washington, DC during this time. After retiring, he worked as a real estate agent for Wilgus & Associates of Bethany Beach, DE until 1990. He returned to DuPont in 1990 as a consultant in the field of patents and licenses. In 1995 he expanded his consulting practice. Mr. Reichert was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was active in sports his entire life. He earned a Letter at the University of Michigan in wrestling while an undergraduate. He won numerous regional and national awards in the sports of badminton, squash and handball throughout his adult life. Also, he was an avid participant in golf, tennis, racquetball, saltwater fishing and lawn bowling. Mr. Reichert was active in his community throughout his life. He was a founding member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Wilmington, a member and Past President of the Benevolent Paternal Order of the Elk in Wilmington, and coached soccer for the Concord Soccer Instructional League for children. All are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Weldin & Shipley Rds., Liftwood on Saturday morning, November 4 at 10:30, and interment in All Saints Cemetery.
