Robert James Stokes was called to be with the Lord on January 25, 2014. Bob was born to Marion Shaw Stokes and Victor L. Stokes, in Wilmington, Delaware. Bob opened the doors of his first automobile shop in 1946 and was the long time proprietor of Stokes Garage in Elsmere, Delaware. For many years he has lived along the Elk River where he enjoyed: fixing anything mechanical, boating, fishing and spending time with family. He was an active member of the Towne Point and Trinity Methodist Churches in Chesapeake City. He was preceded in death by his brother Victor and his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Norma May.

He is survived by; his new wife Marilyn Lloyd Stokes, his three children and their spouses and Robert James Stokes Jr. (Donna) Gary Hugh Stokes (Mary), and Cindy Stokes DiSabatino (Pete), and Marilyn's daughter Beth Harrison and her family. Bob had nine grandchildren and their spouses, Robert Stokes III, Dustin Stokes, Jason Stokes, Peter DiSabatino (Tracy), Pam DiSabatino Chorlton (Sam), Jessica DiSabatino Terranova (Michael), Haley Stokes Watson (George), Dane Stokes (Liz), and Torey Stokes. He had 9 great grandchildren Jaden and Chapman Stokes, Emma and Ethan Chorlton, Kaitlyn and Madison Terranova, Peter DiSabatino III, and Hunter and Dexter Watson. Bob will be remembered for his mechanical aptitude, his optimistic nature, his playful sense of humor, his striking blue eyes, detailed crab inspections, and loyal heart. The family is grateful for all the love and support provided by his church family, friends, caregivers and neighbors.
