Robert Teeven Obituary

Robert L. Teeven

Age 77, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 8, 2011 at his home with his family by his side.

Robert was born in 1934 in Boston, MA. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1954. He attended Boston University where he played Ice Hockey and earned an invitation to tryout for the 1960 Gold Medal Olympic Ice Hockey Team. Robert also served in the Army while stationed at Fort Hood Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.

Robert was a serial entrepreneur who founded several successful companies, and lastly focused on commercial real estate development. More importantly, Robert had a passion for helping those in need. One of his greatest qualities was to believe in the dreams of others, and encourage people to never give up.

Through his life Robert was actively involved in numerous philanthropic causes, and was a proud supporter of the Church, the University of Delaware, St. Mark's High School, and DFRC Blue Gold Programs. Robert was also one of the founders for the first youth travel ice hockey programs at the University of Delaware.

Robert loved his family and enjoyed the holiday seasons, his summers in Avalon, NJ, and cheering for his New England sports teams.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandfather Caleb, father Paul, mother Gertrude, and aunt Dorothea. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated grandfather. He leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, MaryJane Teeven, his three children and their spouses Robert F. and Dina Teeven, Kelly and Ken Ralsten, Jeff and Suzanne Teeven, along with nine grandsons Kevin, Brendan, Lance, Will, Alexander, Everett, Parker, Caleb and Riley, and one sister Sally and two brothers Paul and Gerald.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at St. Mary of the Assumption Chapel, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Ashland, DE

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004, St. Mark's High School, 2501 Pike Creek Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, or DFRC, 640 Plaza Drive, Newark, DE 19702.

Dear Teeven Family, Rocko was a special guy to me. He cared about others, and always had a kind word. I'm sure that no matter where he went, he was regarded as a friend who would be there in a time of need. That's what he was then. And that what he always will be. Peace be with you as you grieve losing him.
