Ron Waller Obituary
Blades - Ron Waller, age 85, of Blades, Delaware passed away at home surrounded by family on December 17, 2018.
Ron was an American football player and coach. He played in the National Football League as a running back for the Los Angeles Rams for three years and for the Los Angeles Chargers. He was interim head coach for San Diego in 1973 and then was the head coach with the Philadelphia Bell of the USFL and Chicago Blitz.
Prior to his professional career, He played for the Laurel High School Football Team and the University of Maryland, College Park. He was a standout football player receiving many awards, He was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame in 1977 and the National High School Hall of Fame. Ron was known as a living legend, especially in Delaware with sports and generosity.
Later in life he became a successful harness horse racing owner, along with his trainer Les Givens.
Ron is survived by his wife, Marcia Waller of Blades. His sons, Post Steven Dye of Santa Monica, CA and Ronald T. Dye of Point Arena, CA. A daughter, Wendy Waller of El Salvador. Grandchildren, Amanda Dye, and Thomas and Christopher Waller.
A viewing will be held on January 12, 2018, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Laurel Fire Department Hall, 205W 10th Street Laurel, DE. A celebration of his life will continue at 3:00 pm, with the Chaplin Jimmy Hoppa officiating. Interment will be held privately.
Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
