Ronald Ammerman Obituary

Ronald L. Ammerman

Ronald L. Ammerman, age 69, of Landenberg, PA, and formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away on September 18, 2013.

Born in Atlanta, GA, to the late Louis and Evelyn Ammerman, Ron was raised in North Tonawanda, NY, where he graduated from "NT" High School Class of 1961. While attending high school, he also graduated from Radio Electronic Television School. Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he became a Fire Control Technician (missiles). He attended the University of Delaware, working toward a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Ron worked as a Senior Development Specialist in the engineering department at DuPont Co. in Wilmington for over twenty five years, and retired in 2009.

Ron's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially camping and vacationing together. Ron was "Mr. Fix-It" and enjoyed tackling any type of project. He took great pride in the family's log home he built himself in Landenberg. In his spare time he enjoyed working on all types of cars and engines, photography, and using his handyman skills to help anyone in need. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his corny jokes.

Ron was also a man of strong faith and very active with his church, where he had held many positions through the years. Ron and his wife also sang with another couple in a Gospel quartet, The Sojourners. They performed concerts, and their puppet shows featured scripts Ron had written.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Susan (Nee Katzenberger). He was the devoted father of William (Kimberly) Ammerman of Newark, DE, Rhonda (Brian) Gorog, of Silver City, NM, and Evelyn (Joseph) Mason of Wilmington, DE; dear brother to Gary (Martie) and David (Brenda) Ammerman, Linda (Dennis) Neal, Guy (Barbara), Keith (Debra) and Boyd (Lisa) Ammerman, and loving Grandpa of Louis, Lee, Benjamin, Daniel, Carolyn, Sarah, Megan, Kathryn, Susannah, Charlotte and Ronald.

A viewing will be held on Monday, September 23rd from 6 to 8 PM at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808 and on Tuesday, September 24th from 10 to 11 AM at Harvest Christian Fellowship Church, 3813 Newport Gap Pike, Wilmington, DE 19808, where Ron's funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be at Longwood Cemetery, 945 E. Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, PA 19348.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Christian Fellowship Church.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the Ammerman family. I knew the family from 1956-1961. I attended the Nash Rd. church with the family. In the youth group we had many a wonderful party at the family home. I also went to school with Sue. In 1962 I moved to Calif. with my husband and lost track of them. I also lost my beloved husband Bill in May. So I know the feelings of their heartache. My love and prayers go out to each and everyone of his family, it takes a lot of strength, love and prayers to help you through this difficult time. God bless all of you!

I know your little brother Boyd Ammermamn and his wife Lisa and family who is a strong man of God too. And I believe Boyd shares your sense of humor. We love Boyd and I am sure we would have loved you had we met...but one day we will when we all get to heaven. Until then we will keep your family in our prayers.

The Ammerman family was like a second family to me. We spent many happy hours with them. I am sure he has received his "well done" and has entered his new home . I pray that God will bless you Sue and your entire family and may you feel His comfort at this time.

I am a better person having known Ron. I was lucky enough to know and work with him for over 20 years, and benefited greatly form his patience and vast knowledge. An absolute gentleman, and an Icon among men. His gentle demeanor and sense of humor will never be forgotten. His faith and love for his wife, family & friends serve as examples to us all.
