Simone Scarpone "Sam" Mr. Simone Scarpone, 73 of Wilmington, DE passed away Saturday afternoon, January 10, 2004, at home surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born in Terramo, Italy on June 23, 1930, son of the late Raffale and Maria (Ruggiri) Scarpone. He came to DE with his sister, Emilia on October 10, 1949. Sam was employed as an operator at the DuPont Company's Newport pigments plant, retiring after 20 years of service. Upon his retirement from DuPont, he became a self-employed landscaper. Sam was a member of the Prince of Piedmont Lodge #475 of the O.S.I.A., where he enjoyed playing bocci. An avid outdoorsman and gardener, he also loved to cook and entertain his family and friends. One of Sam's favorite pastimes was listening to accordion music and he enjoyed visits to Delaware Park in some of his spare time. He was extremely dedicated to his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His wife of 44 years, Regina T. (Bloch) passed away April 25, 1998. Sam is survived by his children, Ralph Scarpone and his wife, Mary Ann, Mary T. Cutler and her husband, Malcolm, Julianna Cassello and her husband, Vincent and Joseph Scarpone, all of Wilm.; and his grandsons, Anthony Cassello, Raffael Scarpone, Michael Cassello and Zachary Cutler. Also surviving are his brothers, Aldo Scarpone of Neppazano, Italy, Alex Scarpone and Mario Scarpone, both of Wilmington; his sisters, Emilia Tartaglia of MI, Ilda Bruni of Paoli, PA and Evana Vitelli of Wilmington; 9 nephews; 5 nieces; and 20 great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th & DuPont Sts. on Wednesday morning January 14 at 11:30 am. Entombment will follow in the St. Benedict Garden Crypt, Cathedral Cemetery. Family & friends may call at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave., (opp. Cathedral Cem.) on Wednesday morning from 9-11 am.
