Victoria PYLE Obituary

Victoria Pyle Lillie Victoria Pyle, age 95, died on Sunday, November 14, 2004 in Wilmington Hospital following a brief illness. She was born and reared in Wilmington and was a graduate of Tower Hill School, Wilmington and Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, NY. Following college, Miss Pyle, known professionally as Vicki Starr, began a long career in music as a vocalist, an accompanist, and a coach at Sarah Lawrence College, and as a vocalist, a coach, and a teacher in New York City. Her work in radio included singing with the Robert Shaw Chorale. Some of her favorite activities included tennis, swimming, and English country dancing. With a strong interest in the environment, she supported Planned Parenthood and numerous environmental groups. Among her gifts to the arts, Miss Pyle established a scholarship at Sarah Lawrence College in memory of her teacher and coach, Jerome Swinford. Miss Pyle was preceded in death by her parents, Victor Ross Pyle and Lillian Jackson Pyle; and by the 6 siblings who survived into adulthood: Victor Ross, Jr., Elizabeth (Mrs. J. Craik Morris), Albert, Dana, Theodore, and Margery. She is survived by a nephew and 2 nieces: Dana J. Pyle, Jr. and Barbara Pyle Robertson, both of Wilmington, DE and Cynthia Monro Pyle, of New York City, NY; and their respective families. A memorial gathering will be held in the spring.
