D'Onofrio
Age 78 of Wilmington, DE passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
Mr. D'Onofrio was born in Wilmington on June 5, 1931, son of the late Frank and Anna (Corsano) D'Onofrio. A graduate of Wilmington High School, class of 1949, he proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. After his military service, Mr. D'Onofrio attended the University of Delaware and graduated in 1958, having earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He was a self-employed insurance agent and income tax preparer for many years. An avid sports enthusiast, he managed his team in the Delaware Semi-Pro Baseball League from 1959 - 1977 and served as President of Delaware Semi-Pro Baseball from 1967 - 2006. He was honored with membership in the Delaware Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2002, Mr. D'Onofrio was given the Herm Reitzes Award by the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association for his long service to Delaware Sports. He was a lifetime member of the Conservative Caucus, served as President of the Positive Action Committee and also served as President of the National Association for Neighborhood Schools (NANS) from 1980 - 2009.
Mr. D'Onofrio is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Ann (Cahall) D'Onofrio; four children, Susan P. Strunk, Mark E. D'Onofrio and his wife, Mary Ellen, Johnna Mae Godwin and her husband, David and Walter L. Gifford, Jr.; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryan, Sarah, Michael, Matthew, Allison and Lauren.
Friends may visit with the family at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, November 9 from 4 - 8PM. The funeral service and interment will be held privately.
