William Devenney Obituary

William George Devenney, Jr.

Quarryville, PA - February of 1935 - June 2, 2018

Bill was born to William and Ruth Devenney in Wilmington, DE, reborn into God's family as a teenager, and delivered to Heaven on June 2, 2018.

Loved by his family, Bill was preceded in death by Joan, his loving wife of almost 60 years. He is survived by his five children: Bill (& Shari), Mark (& Marina), (Lee &) Ruth Epstein, Shawn, and Faith, his cherished siblings, Jane Meder and Guy (& Ruth) Devenney and many nieces and nephews. Bill loved being a grandfather and great-grandfather to 30 children, here and in heaven.

After the Navy and Bible School, he spent his entire career with the family trucking business, William's Chemical Transport Inc. He was a giving friend to many through the years and loved meeting people and learning about their life.

Above all, Bill loved God, God's Word and singing about his Savior, Jesus. He wanted his children and family to personally know Jesus and honor the Lord with their lives. He brought joy to many by caring for, hosting, and serving family, friends, missionaries and church groups through the years.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held Saturday, June 9, with a viewing at 11:30 AM and funeral at 12:30 PM, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, and interment to follow at Siloam United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3720 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA, 19060.

In lieu of flowers, he would love to be honored by giving to one of these ministries:

TEAM Missions: Account 011791; PO Box 1986, Grapevine, TX 76099 (son Mark Devenney)

Word of Life: PO Box 600, Schroon Lake, NY 12870 (grandson William Devenney)

Enjoyed being in high school with Bill. But the best blessing is knowing he is in Heaven. Your friend and brother in Christ, Andy and Karen Rice [email protected]

What a blessing Bill was to all who knew him. His family went to Eastlake OPC at 27th & Market Streets when I first knew him. Later he and Joan [before they were married] were our youth directors in Machen League. That was in the 50's a long time ago. May our Lord Jesus Christ enrich all those that will miss him [& Joan] with His peace and comfort at this time. . .until we meet again.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. May the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 comfort your family.
