William PORTER Obituary
William H. "Billy" Porter Age 60 of Harrington, DE died November 26, 2003, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial, He was born in Harrington to Harry A. Porter and Kathleen I. Porter. He dedicated his life to law enforcement. He worked briefly for the Milford police department for 4 years before he became a Delaware state trooper. He worked for the Delaware State Police for over 26 years, retiring in 1998. Mr. Porter was born and grew up in Harrington. He loved his community and was very active in Harrington. He gave of himself for the betterment of Harrington by serving on the town council for several years, serving as the mayor of Harrington for 3 years, and serving as city manager for 3 years. Mr. Porter was a member of the Retired Troopers Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to the beach and shopping. Mr. Porter was very family oriented. He enjoyed taking care of his family, and spending as much time as possible with his immediate family and his siblings. He will be remembered as a caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Ann Porter; and a brother, Donald L. Porter. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Moffett Porter of Harrington; sons, Cpl. Billie Joe Porter of Felton and Trooper Jay A. Porter of Milford; and stepsons, Nathan D. Rust of and Eric Rust and Bryan D. Allaband, all of Harrington. Other survivors include brothers and sisters, Doris Klapp, Jack V. Wyatt, Ronald J. Porter, Charles Wayne Porter, Faye P. Trader, and Robbin Stubbs, all of Harrington, Ricky L. Porter of Milford, Danny Porter and Debbie K. Butler, both of Harrington, Harry B. Porter of TN; parents of his first wife, Genevive and George Kline Moore of Harrington; and brother of his first wife, Ricky Moore of PA. The parents of his second wife, Barbara Sleva of St. Michaels, MD and M. Edward Moffett of Frederica; 5 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. There will be a viewing from 6-9 pm on Sunday, November 30, at the MELVIN FUNERAL HOME, 15522 S. Dupont Hwy., Harrington, DE 19952, where the funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, December 1, with Rev. Danese Collins officiating. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
