Alice Humphrey

Alice Humphrey, age 94 of Glen Mills, PA passed away on August 12, 2021 after a short stay at Riddle Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hartford, CT, Alice has resided in the Maris Grove community since 2008, and previously in Bel Air, MD since 1965. She received her degree from Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa where she met her husband, Bruce. In 1964, Alice and Bruce co-founded Humphrey Chemical Corp., located in Edgewood, MD. Devoted to her faith, she was an active member of Bel Air United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She was most recently a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester, PA. Alice was full of humor and always had a joke to go with every conversation—even making all the nurses laugh up until she passed. She was also known for her kindness and generosity as a philanthropist. She was very active in the Maris Grove community and a proud member of Project Linus, where she crocheted over 100 blankets for children in need. She enjoyed challenging herself as an avid Bridge player for 75 years. She also continued to learn new skills, and at 80 years old, she taught herself how to play pool. Alice loved competing in the Maris Grove billiard tournaments and proudly showed off her trophies! She traveled to 30+ countries and visited 48 states, with her “claim to fame” being that she rode a camel in Egypt and an elephant on the Las Vegas Strip. In addition to her mother, Elna Jesperson Olsen, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, S. Bruce Humphrey who passed away in 1989, by her son, James C. Humphrey who passed away in 1996, and by her brother, Harold E. Olsen who passed in 2015. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jill Humphrey Taylor and her husband, Douglas Taylor, 3 grandchildren: Alexa L. Humphrey, Katelyn N. Humphrey, and Mackenzie J. Taylor, and sisters-in-law, RuthEllen Reed and Charlene Olsen. Services will be held on Friday, August 20th at Maris Grove Retirement Community, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA 19342. Visitation, 10-11AM, Memorial Service 11AM, followed by an open luncheon at 12PM. All friends and family are welcome. Interment will be private at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
