Edward Deegan Obituary

1924-2015 Edward A. Deegan, age 91, of Glen Mills, PA, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Camden, NJ, he was the son of the late William Deegan, D.V.M. and Mary Elsie (Gormley). Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years, Eunice “Gloria” (nee Bonner) in 1985; four brothers William, John, Richard, Francis (infant), and sisters, Margaret “Margie”, Mary and Elsie, son-in-law Jack Caso, and brothers-in-law James Bonner and Joseph Bonner. His successful and long career in the insurance industry began at Standard & Accident in Philadelphia, PA in the 1950’s, The Irons Agency in Mt. Holly, NJ in the 1960’s and from 1965 through his retirement in 1983 with the J. C. Taylor Insurance Company of Upper Darby, PA as President. Ed was a proud veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Force as a Sgt. Engineering and Operations Clerk for the HQ & HQ Squadron 23rd ADG, Okinawa, Japan. Upon returning to the States Edward enrolled at Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, MD, graduating with a B.S. degree in History. He was a graduate of Moorestown, NJ High School. Ed enjoyed gardening and lawn care, was an avid supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies throughout his life and spent happy times with his great grandchildren during recent years. Ed was a devoted member and parishioner of St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Chadds Ford, PA for over thirty years. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his four surviving daughters, Eunice (Mickey) Deegan, Deborah (Debbie) Caso, Maureen and son-in-law, David F. Kelly, Kathleen Deegan and her partner Karen Britt and son, Edward A. Deegan, Jr. of Baltimore, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Accordingly, Ed will be lovingly missed by his sister-in-law, Alice Bonner, surviving sister, Alice Askin and long time friend, Eileen Kane and several nephews and nieces. A Special thanks go to the Chester County Comfort Keepers for their daily care and visits to him over the past few years and to the outstanding care he received at Brinton Manor the past few weeks. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 430 Valleybrook Rd., Glen Mills, PA 19342 on Tuesday, 10:30AM where friends may call from 9:15-10:15AM. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, 1050 Pottstown Pike, West Chester, PA. Funeral arrangements have been made with Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road Garnet Valley, PA 19060.
