Joan Krantz Obituary

Ithaca, NY Joan Sylvia Krantz (nee Kranyak)passed away at the age of 79 on November 20, 2015. Joan was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John and Veronica Kranyak (nee Zielinski). She was a graduate of Saint Hedwig’s Elementary School, Chester High School, and the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Joan was married to Dr. Ronald H. Krantz for over 55 years until his death nine months before her own. Joan and Ron spent over 50 years of their married life in upstate New York, where they raised three children and contributed their considerable energy and talents to the city of Ithaca, the Cornell University community, and the former Tompkins County Hospital. Joan will be remembered for many things, not the least of which being her fierce devotion and loyalty to those she loved, her warmth, her quick mind and intelligence, and her dignity and strength. Joan is preceded in death by her husband Ron, by her brothers Juziu Sylvester Kranyak and John Stanley Kranyak, and by her sister Judith Therese Hubaj (nee Kranyak). She is survived by her children, Dr. Jamie Krantz Burroughs, Eric Krantz, and Neil Krantz, and by her five grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Bernadette Garro (nee Kranyak) of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, by her brother Joseph Kranyak of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, by her sister-in-heart Jean Tang, and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A mass in Joan’s name will be celebrated at Saint Hedwig’s Roman Catholic Church on 4th and Hayes Street in Chester on January 17, 2016 (9:15 am).

My sincere condolences to the Kranyak family... old, old friend of her sister Judy. Many good times at their 3rd Street home and Mrs. Kranyak's great cooking. Joan was a beautiful girl.
