John Sloss Obituary

John M. Sloss, 86, a resident of Secane for the past 47 years, formerly of Southwest Philadelphia, on February 10th, 2017 at Chester Crozer Hospital. Born July 17, 1931 in Philadelphia; a son of the late Joseph Maxwell and Adelaide (nee Fach) Sloss. “Jack” as he was called by family and friends, worked as a pipefitter for Joseph Stong Inc. until he retired to take care of his wife Joan (nee Steffen) who died in December of 2014. Before that he was a bulldozer operator, and then a pipefitter at both Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., and the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. As a young man, Jack participated in gymnastics, boxing and weightlifting, but his middle years gave way to his love of music leading him to become a self-taught guitar and piano player. He loved to entertain his family and friends by playing and singing for them whenever they gathered around his dining room table. He was an active member of St. Alban Masonic Lodge No. 529. He is survived by his five children, Joan Nora Sloss (Wanda Bedinghaus) of Littleton, CO; John Merrill Sloss, Jr., of Secane, Patricia (Thomas) Thornton of Glen Mills, Bryan (Teresa) Sloss of Cherry Hill, NJ; and Steven (Lisa) Sloss of Westbrook Park; 7 grandchildren Cari, Jack, Josh, Steven, Renee, Shannon and Brittany, and 3 great grandchildren Aidan, Koa and Katelyn. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, Pa. A visitation for relatives and friends will begin at 10 a.m. with a service to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to PCF – Prostate Cancer Foundation. We love you dad and we know now you are with your bride Joan. God Bless you both. You've taught son Bryan how things work, not just why they happen. You are an inspiration to anyone who has ever met you. The love you have shown to your wife was astonishing, maybe everyone should take a page from your playbook. Bryan and Teresa both appreciate your work ethic you've instilled in him..."get er done"
We love ya dad... Rest in peace
