Marty Feldman Obituary

Philly Boxing Legend Dies at 83 Marty Feldman, age 83, on February 14th, 2017 while surrounded by his family in Broomall, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his children Jennifer, Damon, and David Feldman, his grandchildren Natalie, David, Kathleen, David Jr., Alayna, Alyssa, Landon, and his brother Gerald Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma. A Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Famer, Marty Feldman was born on October 25th, 1933 in Paterson, New Jersey. Feldman rose to legendary, and scary, status as a Philadelphia boxer with a professional record of 23-2 with 19 KOs. He used his superior knowledge of the sport to train up and coming prospects in Broomall, PA, out of whom he molded seven world champions. In his later years, Feldman trained young men and women at the Feldman Fitness Center in Springfield, PA. Friends are invited to celebrate Marty’s life on Sunday, February 19th, 2017 from 10 to 11:30 A.M. at the Oliver H. Bair Co., 8500 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA, 19082. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Interment to follow at Montrose Cemetery. Arrangements by Neeld Family Funeral Care. I've been retired for nine years and just heard about Marty passing. I was the sports editor at the News of Delaware Country for 37 years, and Marty made writing stories about him just flow onto the page because he was such a colorful character and had enough boxing wisdom to fill three Madison Square Gardens. We used to discuss matters such as "could Jake LaMotta have beaten Sugar Ray Leonard?" - and it was always fun to hear Marty explain, emphatically, with a dismissive wave of his hand - how Jake could. And I'm sure Marty feared something. Maybe King Kong, maybe not. He may be gone, but the memories linger on.

Dear Damon,David and Jennifer,
My deepest condolences on the passing of your father. I heard yesterday from a mutual acquaintance. Your dad was my friend, roommate and boxing mentor while living at 39th and Chestnut Sts. during the early 60s.He taught me how to throw a straight right(cross)since he always preached that they all go down when tagged on the chin.I'm sorry we didn't stay in touch more often after we got married.I greatly valued his friendship and will miss him!

Marty and I worked together at the Media Court House. We became friends and spoke of our love for boxing. Marty got my husband and I tickets to see Augie Pantellas fight and we were hooked. Marty was a great person with a big heart who loved to see other people happy. A year ago we attended a fight at a casino in Chester and spoke with Damian about his father. He was not doing well, but had a positive attitude. Rest in Peace, Marty--the fights will never be the same without you.
