Ralph Christie Obituary

Ralph W. Christie, Sr., 89, Retired Master Machinist at Westinghouse Ralph W. Christie, Sr., 89, of Aston, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Southeastern Veterans Center, Spring City, PA. Born in Darby, he has resided in Aston for over 50 years. Mr. Christie retired from Westinghouse after 42 years of service as a Master Machinist. He served in the Army in the 34th Infantry Division during World War II. He was stationed in Italy and North Africa, was wounded twice and received the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was Past Commander of the Killen Miles American Legion Post No. 87 and was also active with Post 83 and the VFW. Mr. Christie was also a Volunteer at the Philadelphia VA Hospital. He was known as Grand Pop to everyone and loved traveling and the outdoors. Son of the late Percival and Anna Dunston Christie, he was also predeceased by his wife Angela Condon Christie and son Thomas Christie. Survivors: His daughter Jean Anne (Tim) Barnhart of Grove City, PA, two sons Ralph (Carol) Christie of Lansdowne and Mike (Dee) Christie of Wilmington, DE, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Service: Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service Thursday 11 am at Marvil Funeral Home, 1110 Main St., Darby, PA where friends may call Wednesday eve 7 to 9 pm. Burial: Fernwood Cemetery.

Our sons have wonderful memories of Mr. Christie, as do we. I'll never forget seeing him sled down to his mailbox or watching him trudge up the hill followed by his dog and a wayward goat!
