Raymond Hinton Obituary

Raymond C. Price Hinton died in his sleep on October 2, 2014 following a long illness.
Mr. Hinton was born in Yorkshire, England in 1925, and lived for many years in Minehead. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Land Defense Volunteers (or "Look, Duck and Vanish" as he liked to call it) during World War II. At the age of 18 he broke his back and spent 6 months in a cast. While recuperating, he taught math at a local high school for a short time. He earned a bachelors' degree in electrical engineering in two years from the University of Bristol. Mr. Hinton worked as an engineer for TRE in Malvern, England, where he met and married Alison Mitchell. They honeymooned in Belgium. He moved to the United States in 1952 and Alison and their two oldest children joined him in 1953. Alison died of lung cancer in 1985.
Mr. Hinton worked for several companies specializing in electronics and communications, including ITT, General Electric, Sperry Univac, PHILCO Ford and RCA. He became an American citizen and worked on many government projects. He also served as a consultant to the Israeli government for two years helping them develop a state of the art communication system. He held several patents, including one for an automated billing system that enabled direct dialing outside local calling areas. Mr. Hinton retired in 1987. He married his second wife, Marie Landry of Lansdowne in 1997. They traveled extensively, including China and Australia. Raymond and Marie have been residents of the Wynwood Northampton Manor for the past 15 months. He fought a 20-year battle with CLL (a form of leukemia).
He is survived by his wife Marie, four children (and their spouses): Paula Cosden (Craig); Christopher Hinton (Christine); Michael Hinton (Joanne); and Alexander Hinton (Larisa). He is also survived by five grandchildren – Daniel, Ian (Mali), Alison, Andrew, and Joshua, and two great-grandchildren – Charlotte and Caroline.
Raymond's family will receive condolences Sunday October 5, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the home of Michael P. Hinton, 197 Orthodox Dr. Richboro, PA 18954.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make a contribution to Bridge to Healing Foundation, 3998 Red Lion Road, Suite 130, Philadelphia, PA 19114 of www.bridgetohealinginc.com In the name of Raymond Hinton.
