Sharing a single memory about Dick Simmin is impossible as I am fortunate to have almost 63 years of priceless unforgettable memories. My Uncle Dick and Aunt Jeanne were best friends of my parents, Walt and Dolores Jackson, and from the day I was born I was blessed with favorite aunt/uncle/cousin. There were shared homes for Sat. night pinochle games, family b-day and holiday gatherings and gift exchanges, and vacations to Lake Wallenpaupack and Ocean City, NJ. It's no secret Uncle Dick was the master of joke telling! He gifted many with his Barber Shop Quartet performances. He knew how to rock wearing a flannel shirt, enjoyed his Old Grand Dad, and as a kid I would buy him penny candy (B B Bats) and chocolate covered cherries.
He was a skilled wood craftsman and when the apples of his eye, grandchildren Heather and Drew were born, artisan toy boxes, rocking horses, doll houses, and even a race car bed were produced. These priceless possessions have now been passed down to a new generation aka great-grandchildren Grace, Tyler, and Aislinn.
For 31 years now Uncle Dick has happily shared his life and love with Gerri and her family. They not only shared a loving marriage but a passion for unique Halloween costumes, dancing, jokes, and laughter.
Three weeks ago my Uncle gave me his greatest gift...a 30 minute phone conversation. I never imagined it would be our last but it was so "him"...filled with incessant laughter, a tinge of sarcasm as he complained about the facility food and his missing Gerri's cooking, a lot of family reminiscing, and ended with the piece de resistance...that he was a favorite uncle! No truer words could have been spoken!!
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES UNCLE DICK AND FOR ALWAYS PUTTING A SMILE ON MY FACE AND IN MY HEART!!!
Love,
Kathy

To The Shimmin Family,

Richard found healing in Heaven. The Angels rejoice.

Richard had the fruits of the Spirit which are Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control. I am humbled to be just a small part in his life.

I leave the family with this comfort:

"The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for that is the whole duty of everyone." Ecclesiastes 12:13

Very sorry to lose my "fun uncle." The last time I saw him was at Bill's funeral & he seemed in good health & spirits then. I'd hoped to see him again, but that's a good way to remember him.

Gerri...so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. The last of my mother's siblings. I like to think they were all waiting for him...with his father Ernie, brother Fred and bother Bill on the pianos and my mother Margaret on the organ his sister Winnie and Mother Florence looking on!
