I don't know if anyone will see this or not, but I'm compelled to post a heart felt memory that I have of Rob. I only got to know Rob for a short 4 months of his life. Back in 1995 we were in the Abraxas leadership development program in South Mountain, Pa. I didn't really get a good chance to know him until the final 6 weeks of that program as we endured the wilderness portion of that program. While we hiked the loyalsock trail up in Williamsport I really got to talk with him at length about various intellectually stimulating topics, mostly the grateful dead and how we both planned to jump on the fall tour that year after we finished the program. We became fast friends. We were assigned tent mates while living on the trail, but Rob and I swapped mates and we would stay up late talking and laughing - when we weren't exhausted from hiking miles and miles over formidable terrain. Sadly we learned of the passing of Jerry Garcia a short two weeks before we would graduate. We both took our black belts from our uniform and wore them around our upper arm in mourning. I had been trying to locate other guys that I was in that boot camp with over the years and only have managed to find one other guy, but Rob was always on my radar. I would tell stories of Rob anytime that I would share what I was doing the day that Jerry died. This morning I decided to make another effort to find Rob and my heart shattered to find his obituary. Life is so precious, I wish I would've gotten the chance to speak to him again. Such a beautiful person. I'm very grateful to have gotten to know Rob for the very small amount of time that I did. I wish I would've gotten in touch with him earlier, I have so many things that I would've loved to share with him about my life in the past 30 years and I would've really enjoyed hearing about his life as well. If any of his close family or friends read this and would be so kind to contact me and maybe tell me more about Rob I would be so grateful. I extend my deepest and sincerest sympathies to all who got to enjoy Rob. My email address is [email protected] and my name is Josiah Swan. I live in Pittsburgh.
