Suzanne Case Obituary

Suzanne Surrick Cramp Case, 91, passed away on August 17, 2022 at peace, in her home in Southern California with her 4 boys by her side. A remarkable life, well and fully lived, with love, humor and acceptance, lived her way, on her terms with every day an opportunity for personal growth. She traveled the world, loved sport fishing, reading, bright conversation, gardening, and making her homes inclusive, welcoming and loving. In 1978 her higher power became her guide, but always her children were her purpose. Sue was predeceased by her parents, John E. and Florence D. Surrick, sisters Ann(Cornell) and Helen( Healy), brothers John E. Jr. and Robert B., grandson Adam Perri, and daughter Catherine T. Cramp. Mourning but accepting her next journey, her survivors are her brother the Hon. R. Barclay Surrick, of Media, sons John F. Cramp Jr. (Antonia), David B. Case/Cramp (Doug), Andrew H. Cramp (Kim) and Daniel E. Cramp (Liz), grandsons Michael, Kevin, and Austin, 16 nieces and nephews, and a small irrevocably closely knit group of friends, diminished by time. Raised in Bowling Green, Media, during the Depression, raising her own large family at Clover Hill Farm, off Beatty Road, Media, she was active with Chester Hospital, Hedgerow Theatre and Trinity Church. Sue found her voice and her passion in the 1960’s fight for civil rights. As the wife of an attorney and politician wife she was the stylishly dressed consummate hostess entertaining civil and political leaders of the day for cocktails, dinners and intelligent discourse. She refused to accept broken promises and systems and chose to fight for change when needed. As a founding Advisory Board Member and subsequent Chair of PROJECT PREPARE, 1969, PMC, she cemented her convictions and off she went, not just a wife and mother, but a woman with a voice. Marching in Selma, The National Mall and on the streets of Chester, she was a tireless proponent of equal rights and civil justice. Returning to Temple University for her Masters in Social Work in at 61, she worked first at Crozer Chester Medical Center and then The Guidance Center of the Florida Keys. In the 1990’s Suzanne retired to the Florida Keys to a home she had enjoyed since the 1950’s and later moved to Southern California. Blinding Macular Degeneration at 70 did not slow her down for one minute. She said it was just another challenge, another learning experience. Her favorite saying was “ it is what it is” and this was no exception Her 5 children were her great love and her strength. Family was her core. She reveled in each of their successes and stood close in difficult times. Relatives and Friends may call, September 3 (her 92nd birthday), Visitation 10-10:45 am, with words of remembrance at 11am, interment at Chester Rural Cemetery. Please, no flowers. Plant a bulb, a tree, a flower wherever you choose. Condolences:jnelsonrigbyfh.com
