George Alan Case, 79, of Reading, Pennsylvania, passed away at home on February 2, 2026. A man of deep integrity, quiet fairness, and boundless curiosity, George followed his passions fully and loved his family without reservation.
Born in Jamaica, New York, George was the son of the late George Isaac Case and Minerva Case (née Yuncker). From an early age, he showed a natural inclination toward understanding how things worked, a curiosity that would grow into a lifelong passion for engineering and racing.
George began his professional career as a mechanical engineer at Knoll International, but it was racing that truly captured his heart. In the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, he competed as a racer in the NHRA Stock and Super Stock categories, earning respect for both his skill and his sportsmanship. What started as a passion became a calling when, in 1985, he joined Maple Grove Raceway as a part-time tech inspector. His dedication and leadership quickly set him apart, and in 1989 he was promoted to Vice President and General Manager - a role he held until 2007.
George’s impact on the sport extended far beyond one track. He went on to serve as Vice President of Drag Racing Operations at Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida and later as General Manager of Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, UAE. In recognition of his influence and leadership, George was named the NHRA Person of the Year in 2000, an honor awarded to the individual who made the greatest impact on the industry that year.
Outside of the racetrack, George loved building and working on BSA motorcycles and had a special fondness for the BMW 2002. He was known for being fair to a fault, endlessly eager to learn, and deeply principled in all he did. Above all, George was a devoted and loving father and grandfather, finding his greatest joy in time spent with his family.
George and his wife, Debra, shared a deep and loving partnership rooted in friendship, laughter, and devotion. They truly enjoyed one another’s company, whether watching movies at home or going out to eat together. Above all else, their greatest joy was spending time with their grandchildren, Erik and Aubrey, who brought endless happiness into their lives. George took great care of Debra in every sense of the word, always looking out for her with quiet devotion, tenderness, and love.
George shared a close and meaningful bond with his son, Ian, built over a lifetime of shared interests and time spent together. From an early age, he passed along his love of racing, engines, and mechanical problem-solving, spending countless hours working side by side with Ian in the garage at home. He was a constant source of love, encouragement, and steady support, and he took great pride in the man Ian became.
To his grandchildren, Erik and Aubrey, George was simply Pop-Pop - and being their Pop-Pop was one of the greatest joys of his life. He adored them completely, and they adored him right back. Some of their favorite memories reflect who Pop-Pop was at his core: patient, playful, and warm. Erik fondly remembered Pop-Pop taking the kids into the garage, proudly letting them sit on the motorcycles and honk the horns, while Aubrey treasured sleepovers where Pop-Pop encouraged independence by letting them make their own breakfasts, including omelets.
He delighted in spoiling them, welcoming sleepovers, and occasionally bending the rules (like allowing PG-13 movies in elementary school, much to their parents’ chagrin). Special outings with Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop to Disney On Ice and Cirque du Soleil were among their most cherished adventures. Funny, gentle, endlessly kind, and deeply caring, George made sure his grandchildren always knew just how deeply they were loved.
Whether as a husband, a father, or a Pop-Pop, George gave his love freely and fully, and his family was always the center of his world.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Debra Lynn Case; his son, Ian George Case, and daughter-in-law, Amanda Case; his cherished grandchildren, Erik Case and Aubrey Claire Case; his step-daughter, Jordan Kreitz; his brother, Donald Gary Case; and his sister, Dorian Harmon.
