William Hoy

William "Bill" Hoy, 83, of Springfield PA passed away peacefully on January 10th, 2024. Bill was the son of the late Mary (nee Morrisroe) and William J. Hoy from West Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from St. Thomas More High School in 1959 and St. Joseph's University in 1963. Bill was a gifted basketball player and loved the game. In high school, he won the Markward Award in 1959 as the Philadelphia Player of the Year. At St. Joseph's University, Bill was a member of the 1961 team that made a Final Four appearance. After graduation, he became a high school teacher and coached basketball at St. Thomas More and West Catholic. He retired in 2018 after 56 years teaching in the Archdiocesan school district. He was beloved by his students and players. Beloved husband of Ellen Hoy (nee Triboletti) loving father to William "Bill" (Barbara) Hoy, Jr., Donna (Mark) Boyce, and John (Barbara) Hoy; Cherished Grandfather to Kristen Hoy, Alex Boyce, Bridgette Hoy, William Hoy III, Olivia Hoy, Audrey Boyce, and Kara Hoy. He is predeceased by his sister Patricia Malatesta and survived by his sister Nancy DiFilippo. Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation Wednesday, January 17, 2024, 9:30AM, Holy Cross Church, 651 E. Springfield Rd., Springfield, PA 19064, and to his Funeral Mass 11:00AM in the Church. Int. SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
