William Evan Stillman

1931 - 2022

William Evan Stillman died Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Maris Grove in Glen Mills. He was born March 18, 1931, in Philadelphia, PA, to William Alvy and Evelyn Stillman and grew up in Folsom. After graduating from Ridley High School and Drexel University, “Bill” married Doris Gill of Norwood, on June 19, 1953. Upon earning a master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania, he served his country as a Naval officer in the Civil Engineer Corps. Later he earned his PhD in engineering at Ohio State University and taught at the University of Tennessee, the University of Pittsburgh, Wuhan Institute of Technology, and Rowan University. He also worked in industry with Boeing, North American Aviation, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee Valley Authority, and Westinghouse. As a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Dr. Stillman was a life-long learner and teacher who cultivated relationships with international students wherever he went. He was an apologist for the trustworthiness of the Bible, orthodox theology, and scientific creationism. He served for decades as an active member of The Gideons International, most recently in West Chester. Dr. Stillman is survived by his wife, Doris Stillman; 5 children, Edward Stillman (Karen), Peter Stillman (Jennie), Douglas Stillman (Yingchi), Curtis Stillman (Becky), and Crystal Stillman; 13 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 4 Westtown Road, Thornton, PA, at 4:00 pm, Saturday, February 12. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to The Gideons International (see gideons.org).
