DELAWARE — C. Mack Endsley, 87, of Delaware, Ohio, passed away at the home of his son following an extended illness.
Mack was born in Grover Hill, Ohio on July 15, 1927, to the late Darrell and Ida (McClure) Endsley and he was the third and youngest son.
The Endsley family dates back to 1690 when their ancestors arrived from Ireland to settle in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The Endsley's were a proud and patriotic family from the early years — fighting in the American Revolution, Civil War, and World War II. Mack and his 2 brothers all served in the military during World War II. After his graduation from high school in 1945, Mack, at age 18, enlisted with the Air Force and served in Europe.
Following his discharge from the Air Force, Mack attended Defiance College, then transferred to Ohio University. He graduated in 1951 with a degree in Commerce.
In 1951, he started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Milk Market Administration in Toledo, Ohio. He would work for them for 42 years — retiring as the Market Administrator for the Ohio Valley with offices in Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio.
Mack married Virginia Ann (Steglik) in 1953. While they were living in Toledo, Ohio, their 2 oldest children Shawn and Sandra were born. In 1958, they moved to Delphos, Ohio and their youngest child Scott was born there. Family oriented, his children remember his attendance at their school and athletic events. And, he passed on his love for finance, the stock market and investments.
Virginia and Mack were married for 54 years until her death in 2007.
While Mack seemed reserved and quiet in nature, he was witty and articulate with a wonderful sense of humor to those that knew him well. He enjoyed word games, including the daily crossword puzzle and Jumble and was a fierce competitor at bridge. He loved art and often purchased paintings for their home at local art shows. He enjoyed playing golf…especially the annual Christmas Eve Scramble with his children Scott and Sandy.
Mack returned to Delaware 2 years ago after spending 15 years in Naples, Florida.
He is survived by his children, Shawn Endsley of Reston, Va., Sandra Endsley of Charlotte, N.C., Scott (Michele) Endsley of Delaware; granddaughter, Melina; and brother, Keaton (Miriam) Endsley of Lima.
Mack was preceded in death by his brother, John D. Endsley.
