Carol Hallenbeck Obituary

DELAWARE — Carol Ann George Hallenbeck of Delaware died on Friday January 24th, 2022, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware Ohio, after a recent decline in health.

She was born on January 4, 1940, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Stuart and Helen (Williams) George. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Denison University in 1961. She received a Master of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York in 1963, and was married on September 7, 1963, to Jan T. Hallenbeck, who preceded her in death in August, 2006.

Carol and her family were long-time members of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Delaware, where she served as Organist/Choirmaster from 1975 to 2012 and from 2015 to 2017. She had been Organist at Asbury Methodist Church from 1970 to 1975, and from 1984 to 2001 she was Music Librarian at Ohio Wesleyan University. She was active in many musical organizations in Delaware and Columbus and a frequent performer in concerts and recitals.

She was a member of the Delaware Music Club (past president), the Columbus Symphony Chorus, the Delaware Community Chorus (Accompanist and Conductor), Women in Music – Columbus, the American Guild of Organists (Columbus Chapter), the Association of Anglican Musicians, and the Monday Club of Delaware. She also was a member of the Amalia Consort, a group which performed medieval and Renaissance music. She served on the executive boards of the Central Ohio Symphony, Andrews House, and the Residents' Association of Willow Brook at Delaware Run (president 2018-2020). Most recently she was a member of the Outsiders, a group of Willow Brook at Delaware Run musicians.

Carol is survived by her two cherished sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas (Reshma) of Oakland, CA, and Michael (Jennifer Paige) of Minneapolis. She is also survived by a sister, Janet Jones (Kip) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and three nieces.

Later this year, the Burial Office will be read at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 45 West Winter St.,

Delaware, with the Rev. David Kendall-Sperry officiating. The family will greet friends afterwards at a reception in the church Undercroft. Ashes will be interred in the common vault in the St. Peter's Memorial Garden.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Rector's Discretionary Fund at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 45 West Winter St., Delaware OH 43015, to Andrews House, 39 West Winter St., Delaware OH 43015, or to the Humane Society of Delaware County, 4920 State Route 37 West, Delaware OH 43015.

I am so sorry that I had lost contact with Carol and just saw her obituary. I played music with her for years in the Amalia Concert. She was a wonderful musician as well as a wonderful person. I know she is missed by family and many friends.
