JUDITH UFFERMAN Obituary

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Judith Moore Ufferman, 73, of Indialantic, Florida, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015.

She was predeceased by her father, Jim Moore; and mother, Elisabeth Richards Moore Ober.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert C. Ufferman; son, Michael Ufferman (and his wife, Ida); beloved grandchildren, Casey and Mia Ufferman; sister, Alice Batchelder (and her husband, William); and brother, Tom Moore (and his wife, Ann).

Judy was born on Oct. 31, 1941, in Wilmington, Delaware. She grew up in Delaware, Ohio, attended Willis High School and Ohio Wesleyan University, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts. She married Robert C. Ufferman in 1964 and taught school in Washington, D.C.; Ladue, Missouri; and Rochester, New York.

The family moved to Melbourne in 1976. Judy was active in the County Medical Auxiliary, teaching CPR, Holmes Hospital Foundation, and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was Past President of South Brevard Junior League. She worked with Doc Strawbridge and the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce and she started the First Leadership Brevard classes which later moved countywide. She was also President of the Melbourne Science Center on Highland Avenue in Old Eau Gallie. Judy worked closely with the advanced secret service team for President Reagan's visit to Melbourne in 1987. She was involved in many other PTA activities. Finally, Judy was very active in planning and organizing the expansion of the Eastminster Presbyterian Church Campus. She was the chairperson of the Building Committee that oversaw the building of the Christian Ministry Center.

A friend wrote that Judy always seemed to be thinking in paragraphs and often thinking giant leaps ahead of others. Judy had a brilliant mind and was admired for her ability to have a vision and be able to plan and take thorough steps to see the vision of so many projects turn into successful reality.

In her struggles over the last five years, and in particular the last few weeks, Judy said that she hoped to be remembered as having been a good wife, a good mother, a good grandmother, and a good friend. She succeeded in all her wishes.

Our community, our church, and our personal lives are better for having had Judy be a part of them and we will miss her dearly.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, at the Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home, 1010 Palmetto Ave., Melbourne, Fla. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at the Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

Anyone planning an expression of sympathy is asked to consider Eastminster Presbyterian Church or The Haven for Children.

For Bob and the family, my sincere condolences. Judy was very special to all who were ever part of the Melbourne Kidney Center extended family. It was my great joy to care for her at the surgery center in recent years, and to catch up with her and Bob for a bit. May God hold you all in the palm of his hand.
