Larry Ray Dawson passed peacefully on October 5, 2025, at Grady Memorial Hospital. He was born in Jackson, Ohio on July 13, 1942, to Ray and Orpha Dawson.
Larry graduated from Jackson High School in 1961. During his school years he participated in baseball and enjoyed model airplanes. His love for aircraft led him to achieve his commercial pilot's license. He was also a member of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) for many years.
He was in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves for seven years. He was stationed in Vietnam during the war and was very proud of his service to his country.
Larry has one daughter, Lori from a previous marriage. In 1986, he met the former Connie Morris and married her while on vacation in Maine on October 16, 2017. They shared 38 happy years together.
During his career, Larry worked at Tecumseh Products in Marion, Ohio for many years as a Machinist. He later worked at ATS as a Technician. His nickname was "MacGyver" for his ability to troubleshoot difficult equipment issues.
Larry also served as a Commander for American Legion Post 115. He was also a member of the Delaware County Veterans Association that honored deceased veterans, Vietnam Veterans Association, NRA, and Gun Collectors Association in Ohio.
Larry is survived by his wife Connie; daughter Lori (Bryan) Hensel; stepson Jack (Daisy) Miller; grandchildren Sutton (Tyler) Haile, Trent (Shelby) Hensel, and Alexis (Caden) Lawrence; step grandchildren Megan Miller, Zachary Ison, Tyler (Cassady) Ison; great grandchildren Liam, Kohen and Ellorie Haile; Teigan and Selah Lawrence; step great grandchildren Blake and Max Ison; sister Lois Bailey; Nephews Brian (Wende) Bailey and Michael (Kristy) Bailey; sister-in-law Lu Morris.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center in Delaware with the Reverend Dwight Cimino officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashley Union Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the local Delaware County Veterans Association. Friends may visit with the family from noon until the time of the service on Tuesday.
Following the committal service, the family wishes to extend an invitation to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the Oxford Township Hall, 5125 Shoemaker Road, Ashley.
