MARJORIE ANN (FORT) GEASLEN
SUNBURY — Marjorie Ann (Fort) Geaslen, 87, of Sunbury, formerly of Bay Village and Avon, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Country View of Sunbury and 31 days following the death of her beloved husband Harry.
Born on Dec. 7, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Joyce and Delnia (Jacobson) Fort. She earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from the Radford University.
She married the love of her life, Harry Geaslen on Aug. 7, 1950 after meeting on a blind date their freshman year in college. They lived life inseparable. They were longtime members of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and Christ Church West Shore of Bay Village. She sang in the choir and was active in the vestry and alter guild. Sadly he passed away Feb. 22, 2015. On this past Saturday, she was able to attend his memorial services, greet cherished friends and family, now they are once again reunited.
Dedicated to education for over 45 years, she taught many of those years at the Lorain Admiral King High School. She earned the nickname "Mother Goose" because she took it upon herself to mentor and care for pregnant teens, attending births and assisting with housing needs. She took a keen interest in her students and their care.
The Queen Mum of the Avenbury Red Hat Society, she also served as the grand marshal of the Duct Tape Parade in Cleveland. Skilled with a needle and thread, she was a member of the quilting club and enjoyed playing bridge.
For many years, Harry and Marjorie played Santa and Mrs. Claus for their church, church families and neighbors before becoming ill. Loving and positive, she saw the good in everyone. Always surrounded with laughter and silliness, she will be remembered for her engaging smile, caring ways, but most importantly for the love of her family and husband.
She is survived by sons, Jeffrey L. (Diane) Geaslen of Apple Creek, Jay L. (Susan) Geaslen of Alpharetta, Georgia; daughters, Janna L (Dean) Rich of Indianapolis, Indiana, JoAnn L "Jodi" (Stephen) Moehring of Sunbury; brother, Robert (Phyllis) Fort of Claremore, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.
She was also proceeded in death by her brother, Daniel Fort.
Memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Bay Presbyterian Church, 25415 Lake Road, Bay Village, Ohio with Pastors Gene Sherman and Jeffrey Geaslen officiating. A coffee reception will immediately follow the service. Inurnment will be in the columbarium on the grounds of the future site of Christ Church Westshore.
