Marlene Yarhouse Obituary

Marlene M. Yarhouse, 77, of Delaware, passed peacefully Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Sarah Moore Home, continuing her family's "tradition" of passing away on the 18th.

Born November 1, 1946, in Delaware, Ohio the only daughter to the late Reginald G. and Marie Irene (Orahood) Langford. Marlene attended Buckeye Valley Local Schools and little did she know she met her future husband in 1st grade. She graduated from high school in 1964. Marlene was a member of the QualDels in middle and high school, which was a group of her 3 very best friends and herself, Nancy, Mary and Jeri. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Johnny L. Yarhouse in 1967 at the Kilbourne United Methodist Church. They would attend the church for their years to come.

In her younger years Marlene was a beautician and enjoyed setting women's hair. When Marlene and Johnny started a family, Marlene chose to be a stay-at-home mother and take care of their two daughters. She was a wonderful mother to not just her children, but the neighborhood children as well. She was a 30-year 4-H advisor and was the advisor for such groups as the Brown Busy Bees, and co-advisor for the Brown Bakers and Rakers.

As the girls matured and Marlene wasn't needed as much in the home, she decided to work for the family business, Buckeye Tractor and Implement, she also worked for American Greetings and Cracker Barrel, in their retail store. Marlene could do anything with her work ethic and determined mind.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, sisters-in-laws Marilyn Langford and Joann Stegner.

Left to cherish her memory are her kind, caregiving, and loving soulmate Johnny; daughters Amy (Tim) Pyle and Jennifer (Bill) Deckling; grandchildren Greg (Courtney) Deckling, Justin (Holly) Deckling, Maggie and Abby Pyle; great-grandchildren Emmett and Endsley; brother Reggie Langford Jr.; and brother- in-law Lewis Stegner; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Marlene was often referred to as "Crazy Marlene" for her high spirits and over-the-top personality. She never knew a stranger, never complained, was fun loving, faithful and simply amazing. She was an amazing seamstress and knitter. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and playing card games such as Euchre, solitaire and Canasta. She was a wonderful drawer; she drew the plans for her house, church parsonage and both her daughter's homes. Marlene's favorite holiday was Christmas, every table, nook, and shelf had Christmas memorabilia on it. She had an impressive Christmas Village collection, was an amazing baker and hostess. Having cookie days leading up to Christmas, and Christmas dinner at the family house was a must every year.

Pastor Jeff Slider will be officiating funeral services for Marlene, on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Kilbourne United Methodist Church, 5591 State Route 521, Delaware, Ohio 43015 at noon. Friends and family may gather from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Greenmound Cemetery in Kilbourne.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Marlene's name may be directed towards the Kilbourne United Methodist Church, 5591 State Route 521, Delaware, OH 43015.

I met Marlene at KUMC and she was also a member of CCL (the Club of Creative Learning). "Mothers Club" met monthly, and we always enjoyed learning new things and sharing our gifts and talents. I particularly remember Marlene wanting to host our December meeting so she could share her love of decorating for Christmas. One September she hosted our meeting in her camper at the Delaware Fair campgrounds. It was always a joy to be with her. Wonderful memories.

My most sincere condolences to the entire family. I had the pleasure to get to know and work with Marlene while she worked at Cracker Barrel. She always had the most beautiful smile and always a kind word.
Just a wonderful and caring person.
