SUNBURY — Mary Faye Higgins, 97, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Westerville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at Bennington Glen Care Center.
She was born on April 17, 1919 in Union Furnace, Ohio the daughter of the late Thomas Benton and Aerie Almeda (Bickel) Trowbridge.
On Sept. 5, 1936, she married Aubrey Burdette Higgins, who helped on the family farm. Together they shared 52 years and a wonderful journey through life until his passing on Oct. 10, 1988.
For 30 years Mary was employed by Big Bear groceries as a cashier. Proud and honest, with an easy going personality Mary was always ready to pick up and go, reflective of her love of travel. She and Aubrey were members of several Airstream Clubs and enjoyed winters spent in Florida.
Mary attended the Brandon Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. An avid quilter, she leaves a legacy of those beautiful treasures. She also enjoyed playing card games with friends and family. Dignified in nature, she will be remembered for her humble ways and spending time with her family whom she dearly loved.
She will be missed by her children, Thomas Higgins and his wife Judy of Mount Vernon, Carolyn Strait and her husband Ralph of Mount Vernon and Judy Ebling and her husband Bob of Radnor; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her sister Gertrude McVey.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. St. Rt. 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service and burial will follow in Burnside Cemetery, Galena.
