SUNBURY — Dr. Olen V. Mann, 89, of Galena, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 16, 2014 at Parkside Village in Westerville.
He was born on May 21, 1925 in Delta, Ohio, to the late Howard and Ethel (Montgomery) Mann.
He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. Retired Doctor of Chiropractic and previously owned the Delaware Chiropractic Center from 1968-1995. Olen graduated from Delta High School in 1943, The Ohio State University, College of Agriculture with a degree in Agriculture Economics in 1950. He went on to do post graduate work at Fenn College (Cleveland State University) and in 1966 changed careers and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church, COBA, Delaware Rotary Club, Ohio State Chiropractic Assoc., Alpha Gamma Sigma Agriculture Fraternity.
Olen in his younger years was active in football, basketball, baseball and softball. He enjoyed carpentry, traveling and reading along with being an avid Ohio State Buckeye Fan attending the Snow Bowl on Nov. 25, 1950 in Columbus. Olen was very active in Agriculture writing and doing photography for a number of Ag related magazines. Olen was instrumental in forming the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners for Ohio in 1975. In 1976 he was named Chiropractor of the Year by the Ohio State Chiropractic Assoc. and in 1982 was given the President's Award, being the first OSCA member to receive both of these awards.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cathryn (Oetzel) Mann and they were married in Mt. Pisgah, Ohio on Aug. 16, 1953; daughters, Cynthia Kay (Carl) Eyman of Sunbury, Donna Jean (Stephen) Favor of Franklin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Laren (Bryan) Cox, Ashleigh (Cass) Brown, Erin (Josh) Waldman, Lynsey (Jeff) Polley, Leah (Nick) Pahren; great-grandchildren, Mackenna and Brody Cox, Logan and Lincoln Brown; brothers, Ellis (Evelyn) Mann of Delta, Leon (Sharon) Mann of Whitehouse.
Preceded in death by brother, Orville Mann.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Stare Route 3 at 637 Ohio 61, Sunbury, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment with Military Honors by the Delaware County Veterans Assoc. will follow in the Sunbury Memorial Park.
