Ruth Eileen Hagar (Easterday) (October 9, 1931 — September 21, 2025) passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon at her home after an extended battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Ruth had a long and wonderful life. She was a lifetime resident of Delaware, Ohio, and she was married to the love of her life, Charles Hagar, Sr., for over 67 years. She loved days filled with sunshine and a hot cup of coffee.
Ruth wore many hats throughout her life. She attended The Ohio State University, she won beauty pageants, and she helped with two successful family businesses local to Delaware, Ohio — Easterday Plumbing and Hagar's TV Repair Service.
Above all, Ruth was a loving wife and mother, and a doting grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She loved cooking good food for her loved ones, and she especially loved a good ice cream party. Chuck and her grandchildren fondly remember her coming to stay on Christmas Eve so she could be with her family on Christmas morning. Her first and foremost love was her family.
Ruth is survived by her son Chuck; four grandchildren, Ashley (Matt) Eberst, Josh Hagar, Lane (Christy) Hagar, and Spencer (Hannah) Hagar; two great-grandchildren, Miles and Emma; sister-in-law and dearest friend, Jan (Dave) Easterday, and sister Molly Pettit.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles, her parents, and three siblings, Charles, Dave and Bernard.
Ruth will be missed by all who knew her. Her family rests a little easier knowing she lived a long, full life that was filled with family and love. Even with Alzheimer's at the very end, everyone Ruth knew were still her "sweethearts".
In keeping with Ruth's wishes, cremation will take place, and no formal services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
As a way to honor Ruth, the family suggests that memorial contributions in her name be made to the Alzheimer's Association by visiting www.alz.org.
