Benjamin Culpepper Obituary
Suffolk, VA-Benjamin Sullie Culpepper, 84, passed away on April 13, 2017. He was the son of the late James and Bessie Culpepper. Benjamin is predeceased by his brother Frank Culpepper and 2 sisters, George Anne Saunders and Jean Holland.
He was a loving father and husband. Benjamin was also an avid hunter and fisherman; he was a member of Asbury Methodist Church in Salisbury, Maryland.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years Carolyn Culpepper of Suffolk; 4 children Chip Culpepper (Marilyn) of Chesapeake VA, Victor C. Culpepper (Wendy) of Kenner LA, Franklin L. Culpepper of Richmond VA, and Carol J. Zoller (Ray) of Charlotte N.C.; his sister Elizabeth Holland of Richmond; 8 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family is being assisted by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Lukes Health Foundation-Children Hospital 190 E Bannock Boise Idaho 83712 or Shriner's Children Hospital 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa FL 33607. BENJAMIN (SULLY TO ME) WAS MY IDOL. I THOUGHT HE WALKED ON WATER. HE TAUGHT ME HOW TO SEIM, HUNT, FISH, SPIT AND CHEW. NOBODY WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF HIS FAMILY LOVED HIM MORE THAN I DID.
HIS PARENTS HIRED ME TO MANAGE THE POOL THEY TURNED INTO A PUBLIC ONE WHEN SULLY WENT OFF TO SCHOOL. I RODE MY BIKE TO THE POOL ALMOST EVERY DAY OF MY PRE-15 YEAR OLD LIFE AND SPENT THE DAY WITH SULLY IN THE POOL CONCESSIONS STAND. HE TQUGHT ME ALL THE OPERATIONS OF THE POOL, SO WHEN HE DEPARTED FOR COLLEGE, HIS PARENTS HIRED ME TO MANAGE THE POOL. THOSE WERE SOME OF THE BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE. NOW OF DRIVING AGE, I COULD NOT SPEND ENOUGH TIME AT THE POOL WATCHING OVER THE SWIMMERS, ESPECIALLY THE GIRLS IN BIKINIS.
I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN HOW MUCH HE MEANT TO ME AS WE HAD THE BEST OF TIMES. WHAT A MAN HE WAS. MY LOVE AND BEST WISHES FOR HIS FAMILY. ART (PIGGIE) LATIMER.
