Edison Hawkins Obituary
Salisbury-Edison Lewis Hawkins, 85, of Salisbury, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at his residence. Born in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Glyde Hawkins and Margaret Ruby Hawkins.
Edison was a US Marine Corps veteran and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1982. Prior to his illness, he enjoyed biking, working at local farms and helping out the Community Players of Salisbury.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Alice Hawkins; a daughter, Sherin Jean Hawkins of Finksburg, MD; son-in-law, Jamie Thomas; 3 grandchildren, Emily Ann Thomas, Samuel Joseph Thomas and Sarah Marie Thomas, all of Finksburg; 2 sisters, Laura Snowden and her husband, Ed of Bristow, VA and Joan H. Rooney of FL; and a brother, Glyde E. Hawkins and his wife, Anita of Myrtle Beach, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Marie Hawkins; a daughter, Saundra Hawkins; 2 brothers, Thomas Michael Hawkins, Sr., and Franklin D. Hawkins; and 1 sister, Charlene Hawkins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Old Post Chapel at Fort Myer, Arlington National Cemetery.
