Edna Peterson Lord

LAUREL — Edna Peterson Lord, 90, of Laurel passed away peacefully at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Edna was born in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Axel and Esther Peterson.

She had worked for Acme Markets in Laurel, E.I. du Pont Co. in Seaford and as an administrative secretary for the Laurel school district, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel and volunteered at the Good Samaritan Shop in Laurel. Cherished family memories include her love of gardening, reading and going to flea markets. She loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Lord is survived by her loving daughter, Janice Baker and husband, Vaughn, of Seaford; a sister, Betty Conkins of Minnesota; a son-in-law, Fred Ellingsworth of Laurel; a grandson, Scott Ellingsworth and wife, Barbara, of Greenville; and a great-granddaughter, Sophie Ellingsworth. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Lord, who passed in 2001, and a daughter, Carol Ellingsworth, who passed in 2004. Two sisters, Ellen McLane and Lillian Travers, and a brother, Ralph Peterson, also preceded her in death.

A special thank-you to her caregivers, Linda Carter, Debbie Wood, Kay McCrea, Brenda Brittingham and Connie Horne.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. The Rev. K. Wayne Grier will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
