Esther Burnett Obituary

Esther M. Burnett

Esther Margaret (Stewart) Burnett, 79, of Stow, Massachusetts, formerly of White Chimneys Farm, Mardela Springs, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2017. She was the loving wife of King Burnett and mother of Mara, Laurie and Erin Burnett.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 28, 1937, Esther was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Eugenia (Kelly) Stewart. She was raised and educated in Hartford where she graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1955 and received her Bachelors Degree from the School of Fine Arts at the University of Hartford in 1959.

Esther and King met at a summer cookout on Long Island while both were working in New York City and married on August 22, 1964. They moved to Salisbury in 1965, where King Burnett practiced law. They settled down at White Chimneys Farm, which was their cherished home for nearly 50 years and where they raised their daughters. The couple loved to travel together and enjoyed collecting mementos and memories of their trips to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Esther was a passionate reader with a great love for art and poetry. She took joy from her roses and gardens at White Chimneys and Stow and enjoyed her pets. She dedicated much of her life to her children and their families and together they shared the biggest moments of their lives and so many of the small ones.

She is survived by her husband King; her three daughters Mara E. Burnett and husband Timothy Frechette of Weston, MA, Laurie A. Burnett and husband Julius Yang of Stow, MA, Erin I. Burnett and husband David Rubulotta of New York, NY; her nine grandchildren Finley, Gillis, Fitz, Mick, Jasper, Elsie, Zachary, Nyle and Colby; brother Charles A. Stewart Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Wethersfield, CT. Esther is predeceased by her sister Lorraine J. Stewart.

Services will be private. Arrangements under the care of Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, A Life Celebration Home, Maynard. To share a memory or offer a condolence visit: www.fowler-kennedy.com. Thoughts and prayers to your family on your loss

Jake Tapper just paid tribute to Mrs. Burnett on CNN and so many of us just learned of her passing . Although a stranger, I wish to also offer my deepest sympathy at the loss of your dear mother. I lost my own mother two years ago, just three months short of her 100th birthday so I have a sense of the depth of your loss. A wise person once said, 'No matter how old you are when you lose your mother, it is always too soon.' May God's Love and Light surround you and give you comfort and peace.
