Dear Sue & family,
My husband & I were classmates of George at STC. George missed a history class and asked to borrow my notes which I gladly loaned him. But he inadvertently didn't return them that Friday. Since he was a day student I had no way of catching up with him to get them back so I could study over the weekend for the test. Another day student, Dick Taylor, heard my dilemma and since he knew where Geo. worked, he went and got the notes and returned them to me. However, he said I had to go to the movies with him to return his favor.
Thanks to George, we have had 54 years of wonderful marriage.
God bless you and your family.
With kind regards,
MaryAnna & Dick Taylor. Ches. City, MD

To Sue, Jeff, Mark, Eric and Daphne, so sorry to learn of George's passing. He was a great neighbor for many years and a close friend and mentor to me. Uncompromising in his generosity when it came to sharing information through entertaining conversations. I will deeply miss not having those chats. He loved his community and was an honest, good man who made a difference by preserving Ocean City's history for generations to come.

George was my 9th grade science teacher at Stephen Decatur High School. He was an excellent teacher and had the respect of all the students and faculty. He was a fine and decent man, and was an effective councilman for Ocean City and county commissioner for Worcester County. A true public servant. And what a historian! Not only Ocean City and Worcester County, but also the United States and the World. Ocean City has lost a great one!

My family and I had the pleasure of meeting George through both Atlantic United Methodist Church and through our son Pete's boy scout troop 261. George was in the very first troop when it was formed under Scoutmaster John Dale Showell III. George spoke at Pete's Eagle ceremony in 2013 and delighted everyone with stories from his troop days including being the bugler and waking the entire Showell household when the troop camped on the property. He is truly missed!!
