GEORGE ZEIBEL Obituary

H. George Zeibel, 93, of Salisbury died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
He was born in Olwein, Iowa, a son of the late Anthony G. and Ida Heyder Zeibel.
George earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Penn State University in 1942 before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He attended officer's school in Edgewood, Md., where he was quickly commissioned to second lieutenant. With the Army, he traveled to many places and was sent to Melbourne, Australia, and Calcutta, India, then on to Darjeeling, India. His later assignments took him from Ledo Road to Burma Road to Kun-ming, China, and when the war ended, he and many other officers were sent to Shanghai. He was a member of VFW Post 6732 in Clover, S.C.
Following his release from active duty, he worked in the poultry feed industry until retirement in 1978. He was good working with his hands and proudly built his own seawall at his home along the river, piecing it together by hand, one stone at a time.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Florence Zeibel; a son, Joseph G. Zeibel, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Clover; grandchildren, Dr. Jason George Zeibel and his wife, Audra, of Fort Belvior, Va., Michael Smith of Deep Creek, W.Va., and Jamie Smith of Glen Burnie, Md.; and a stepson, Lloyd Edward Smith and his wife, Peggy, of Boones Mill, Va.
As the youngest of eight children, his seven sisters preceded him in death.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date at VFW Post 6732 in Clover.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice at the Lake, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.

Just learning of George's death today (11/30), I would like to express sympathy to the family and fondly remember a nice gentleman who contributed over seventeen years of service to the PLUS Volunteer Program and Peninsula Regional Medical Center. We often heard stories about his grandchildren - and I believe it was Duke University. May fond memories sustain you.
