Gerald W. Taylor, Sr.

Delmar-Gerald W. Taylor, Sr., 77 of Delmar, MD, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 after a long battle with Picks Disease, a form of Alzheimers. Born in Salisbury, MD, he was the son of the late George and Erma Shockley Taylor.

Mr. Taylor worked for over 40 years with Dresser-Wayne Industries in Salisbury, retiring in 2001. He loved to umpire Men's Fast Pitch Softball in Wicomico County, also umpiring little league. He was a dedicated Delmar High School Wildcats fan. In his early years he enjoyed racing the family car at Rt. 13 Drag Strip in Delmar.

Mr. Taylor attended the Union United Methodist Church in Salisbury and was known for serving drinks in the fellowship hall.

He was a loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed. He loved participating in all of his grandchildren's activities. Gerald was known by family and friends for his humor and practical jokes and often quoted that you "are a character."

He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Joy A. & Jeffrey Banks Sr. of Laurel and Judy & Stanley Pete Sr. of Salisbury; sisters, Dorothy Godfrey of Bishopville and Lois Perdue of Salisbury; grandchildren: Stanley R. Pete, Jr. and wife, Katy of Delmar, MD, Jeffrey Banks Jr. and wife, Tara of Delmar, DE, Crystal Foote and husband, Jimmy of Hebron, MD, Jeremy Banks and wife, Brittany of Delmar, DE, Ashley Calder and husband, Dan of Salisbury, MD and Joseph Pete of Salisbury, MD.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys "Jean" Taylor, son, Gerald W. "JT" Taylor, Jr. and a brother, Bill Taylor.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Oren Perdue will officiate. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
