John Devlin Obituary

John S. Devlin Jr.

Tyaskin-John S. Devlin Jr., 70, of Tyaskin, MD passed away suddenly on June 15, 2014. Born April 4th, 1944, in Englewood, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Angela P. Hammond and Johns S. Devlin Sr.

John enlisted during the Vietnam War and served in the Navy Submarine Service. The rest of his life he spent working as a Microwave Engineer and Microwave Technical Sales Representative. He most recently ran his own business JSD Technical Sales. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and all the friends he made in the industry over the years.

John embraced life, was insistent on celebrating the good things and moving past any challenge with a positive outlook. He loved all of his family dearly, was there for any family member and friend in need and enjoyed every moment he spent with his dear granddaughter Addison who referred to him as Pop-Pop. He loved to talk politics and enjoyed a lively debate, and he was passionate about his love for his country. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. He enjoyed a good joke, hunting, fishing, gardening, NASCAR, the New England Patriots, and bringing back to life the lovely old home he shared with his wife in Tyaskin. Using his wood-working knowledge and skills he was able to do the majority of the home renovation himself. John was indeed a skilled craftsman. He embraced a tough crossword puzzle challenge and completed at least two a day to keep his mind sharp. He was loved by many and will be missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years April Devlin of Tyaskin, his son Shane Devlin, daughter in law Jennifer Hawley, and granddaughter Addison Devlin of Nanticoke, MD. Extended family includes his sister Margaret Duchemin & partner John McGrath, nephew Brian and his wife Sarah Duchemin, of West Newbury, MD, niece Sara and her husband Mike of Fryberg, ME. John was also extraordinarily close to his wife's parents, siblings, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of John's life will be held on Friday, June 20th at the private residence of Robyn & Morgan White, at Noon. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the West Side Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 85, Bivalve, MD 21814.

John blessed all of us who knew him, with his wit, intelligence, generosity, and humble nature. Hardly a person in the industry didn't know John, as he never knew a stranger. We hadn't been in touch recently, especially since I left the microwave industry. I will miss him greatly. My prayers are with you and your family.

I met John some 25 years ago in New Hampshire working in the microwave industry. I always looked forward to seeing him at our trade shows to share some good humor and discuss world events that only John could deliver. He was always one of the good guys in our industry and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John will always remain in our memories but most importantly within our hearts.
